A Virtual Private Server is a more versatile option than our shared hosting, but it is also more technical. It is an independent virtual machine, hosted on a shared physical machine. You can choose to either maintain the VPS entirely or to hire us to maintain it.
A VPS is what you need if you wish to install software that required command-line access, that needs a large amount of ressources or that has requirements incompatible with shared hosting. You could use it, for example, to host high-traffic websites, a personalized app that would not work on shared hosting (like a website built with node.js). Your VPS could also be a NextCloud instance, an AlternC instance for your organization, a Mattermost or Moodle server, a media or video games server, a VPN, a Mastodon instance : It is yours and you can do what you want with it!
We offer you a Linux virtual machine, with a stable Debian version, to which you have ssh root access. You do not need us to install what you want on it, but we can definitely help you if you need. We offer monitoring and also occasionnal support. We have the expertise to install a number of open source software, or to advise you about them.

- If you put us in charge of maintaining your VPS, we will need to have a user account on the machine. If you wish to maintain your VPS entirely by yourselves, we will not have this access.
- The physical machine that hosts the VPS is encrypted, but the VPS is not separately encrypted. If you lose access to it, we can help you regain access.
Koumbit applies a honest and transparent policy in the allocation of resources on our servers. Thus, we provide a 1:1 ratio for all resources (except for Nano package).
Please note that for deploying a new VPS, we ask for a 99$ fee if you choose monthly payments. We do not apply this fee if the first year is paid upfront.

More info on the backup service
The VPS plan does not include backups by default. We offer a backup service for 10$/month per 50GB. Backups are done using borg, and we monitor them to make sure they happen daily. If you need to restore a backup, you can do it yourself by command line, or you can ask us to do it for you.
Daily backups are kept for 5 days and weekly backups are kept for 6 months, in a second data center, in case of natural disaster.
Collabora Online
Collabora is a free-licensed office suite that allows for simultaneous collaboration on the same document. It supports a variety of formats (text editing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.), facilitating the degooglization and the emancipation of web giants who steal and store your personal data. With Collabora, we continue our mission to empower you to take control on your technological tools!
This service is meant to be combined with a NextCloud installation, either on a VPS or on shared hosting. It is necessary to activate NextCloud's collaborative edition feature.
Access to our collabora servers is available at 50$/year.
Physical servers
If one, two or four VPS are not enough, or if you need large amounts of disk space, it might be time to think about a complete physical server. We offer servers that can be rented for the exclusive use of your organization. Prices vary according to availability of machines. Contact us for a quote! Just like for VPSes, you can choose either to put us in charge of maintenance, or to do it yourself. The price is for renting the physical machine, independently of how many VPS you have on it.
If you already own a server, you can submit a request to share our space in our data center. This depends on ressources and space available, and it is a service we generally offer only to clients we work closely with.
