How to migrate a mailbox to Koumbit

This procedure applies whether you want to migrate a mailbox from an external server to Koumbit, or migrate a mailbox from Koumbit to an external server. To keep the procedure simple, the following steps show how to migrate a mailbox from an external server to Koumbit.

Note that if the old server has several mailboxes that need to be migrated, all these mailboxes will have to be migrated at the same time. In other words, the following steps must be carried out in parallel for each mailbox to be migrated.

Problems with email redirections

Too many connections per IP address

We limit the number of simultaneous connections to our IMAP, IMAPS, POP3, and POP3S services to 10 connections per IP address.

If you are in the place with many devices or people, it could be that your connectiosn are refused if the IP address you appear to be coming from is above this limit.

Add an MX record on external DNS

If you use an external DNS manager, you may want to add an MX record to use Koumbit's mailservers. To do so, create an MX record in your domain zone that points on mail.koumbit.net.

If you have email issues and get in touch with Koumbit, it is very likely you will be asked to send your email headers.

Nothing works! (website, emails...)

Does your web browser (for example, Firefox or Chromium) show an error message indicating that it can't find your site? Are you also unable to send and receive emails? SOS!

In almost all such cases, the problem is that your domain name (example.com) has not been renewed. If you act fast, you will probably just need to pay the annual fee in order to re-activate it. This fee is paid to the domain name registrar, not to Koumbit. The most common registrars are Tucows and Godaddy.
