Koumbit is hiring a PHP developer with experience in WordPress who are motivated to work in a non-hierarchical collective. This position requires 4+ years of experience and is ideal for developers who would like to work closely with clients to realise dynamic web projects while contributing to and supporting the work of the Koumbit collective as a whole.

What you'll do
- Work with clients and colleagues to plan, structure and execute web development projects
- Communicate with clients and team members to understand project requirements
- Build, configure, and support websites built with WordPress
- Manage development projects, including coordination, meeting with clients, and prioritizing project needs
- Analyze client briefs and prepare estimates for development tasks
- Work in a Linux-based development environment using free and open-source software
- Actively participate in 2 to 3 monthly team meetings, internal projects, and collective decision-making, including expressing your opinion and thinking critically about the way our collective works
What we're looking for
- Fluent in both written and spoken French, with English competency
- Self-directed, organized, proactive, and communicative
- Curiosity and motivation to learn and develop technical skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a willingness to seek help and feedback
- Versatile in handling various web team responsibilities (bug fixing, technical support, site building, code analysis, client communication)
- Capable of providing training and support to clients with varying technical expertise
Technical Skills
- 4+ years of experience building websites using WordPress
- Experience working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SASS, jQuery
- Experience with WordPress plugin and theme development
- Comfortable using GNU-Linux command line and tools like git, wp-cli, npm
- Experience using project management tools (we use Redmine)
- Programming and server administration for web development (PHP, mySQL, Apache)
Assets
- Site migration between different CMSs (Drupal -> WordPress, etc.)
- Experience integrating third-party services with WordPress
- Experience and/or interest in the non-profit and/or community sector
- Experience with external communication and promotion ("outreach")
- Enthusiastic about taking on non-technical tasks crucial for smooth operation of the collective (e.g., billing, human resources management, administrative decisions, and shared responsibilities like cleaning)

Some things we think you should know
- This position starts at 30 hours per week, with the possibility of adjusting hours as needed. The hourly salary is 23.47$.
- The majority of our collective is still working from home, and, as a collective member, your input will be part of any changes to this policy.
- Koumbit provides workstations for use in our office in the Centre-Sud, Montreal, but having your own laptop for client meetings would be helpful. It will be useful to have your own setup for remote work as well.
- Unfortunately, our office is not currently wheelchair accessible. Our office is accessed at the front via 1 step, and at the back without a step. However the bathroom is down 11 stairs in the basement and is not wheelchair accessible. Moving to a new office could be considered. You'll be a member so you'll have a say in those discussions.
