What is a Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS)?

Distributed Denial of Service Attacks (often referred to as DDoS in short) have become fairly common on the web. All web hosts, including ourselves and our clients, can occasionally become the targets of suck DDoS attacks, despite putting in place several measures to reduce the number and the effect of these attacks. A DDoS is an approach that aims to render a website and its content unavailable by creating a flood of network trafic upstream. In a way, this situation is not unlike when you ask your personal computer a complicated task: it might slow down for a little while. In addition, this type of attack does not lead to any kind of data leak.
