Koumbit offers assistance to the Haïtian community

Update: Koumbit has gotten in touch with several associations and individuals within the Montreal Haitian community in order to discuss the way in which our organisation could assist the victims of the recent quakes. Following these exchanges, we have decided to postpone our meeting on this theme, which we originally planned for January 29th.

Bills C-46 and C-47: New Threats to Privacy on the Net

The conservative government, supported by the liberal opposition, is presently working hard to pass two laws which greatly expand telephone and electronic surveillance. Bills C-46 and C-47 are amendments to the Criminal Code and Criminal Records Act, respectively.

Koumbit takes a stand against data retention

Since the United States (with its infamous Patriot Act) and Europe are on a fast track towards a surveillance state, Canada is unlikely to remain immune to such a fate. As a politically conscious hosting services provider, Koumbit thus adopted the RiseUp Collective Manifesto, written for the Global Day of Action against Data Retention (Oct. 11, 2008):
