The Open Learning Exchange (OLE) is committed to universal access to basic education by 2015. OLE's global approach to innovating education includes building national and international digital libraries of open and free courseware relevant to the goals and standards of interested countries.
Koumbit was asked to assist The Open Learning Exchange (OLE) in their goal to develop a functional, easy-to-use CMS that provides ways to store, rework, collaborate, and translate courseware material to make it more accessible in countries throughout the world.
We have assisted in developing custom modules, ApacheSolr search customisation, Aegir setup and configuration, Open Atrium, and increasing the ease-of-use for the wide variety of users who contribute to the digital library.
We have also developed a release cycle (Development, QA, and Production) to release new sites each month using Git, Aegir, and the Features module. This has proven to be a highly effective approach for making changes and rolling them out to the production site. As well, this is proving useful now that OLE is starting to install their content in national centres in countries like Rwanda.
Recently, we have been proudly building offline servers for their cilents in Rwanda and other parts of the world. This consisted of developing an offline server-side document preview generation, server configuration/setup, and building more functionality / usability around browsing content.
We continue to assist in building on the existing functionality of this digital courseware repository to add new features and make it even more accessible to the general public.
