Kativik School Board

Koumbit undertook to create the website of the Kativik School Board, which is located in northern Quebec. The site is available in three languages: English, French, and Inuttitut (Inuktitut). The site was carefully designed to work well with slow satellite-based internet connections.

Koumbit installed and configured Drupal 6 as a multisite web farm. Koumbit was also asked to create three independent designs for the site, which will change with the seasons, and to create and integrate a Drupal theme. As well, an image taken from a webcam located in the region is uploaded to the site on a regular basis using a custom script.

The website contains public content as well as private content, in the form of an intranet for teachers and employees of the school board. Among other features, the site include blogs, forums, articles from a regional magazine, postings of job opportunities, and a policies and procedures handbook. One section in particular was developed for education consultants to post news, documents, and links to other websites.

The content can be displayed in a variety of formats, including dynamic blocks, as images presented on a black screen, as printer-friendly pages, or as an email message sent automatically when a page is added or updated.

Koumbit has also provided a powerful free web statistics application called Piwik.
