Drupal and Gallery2 integration for Arctic Perspective Initiative (API)

The Arctic Perspective Initiative (API) is a non-profit, international group of individuals and organizations whose goal is to promote the creation of open authoring, communications and dissemination infrastructures for the circumpolar region.

Koumbit was commissioned to install a Drupal website and integrate a minimalistic-looking theme, designed by a 3rd party.

Because of the sheer number of pictures taken during various polar expeditions and research projects, the client was also looking for an efficient image manipulation solution.

The all-Drupal setup (CCK, Imagefield and Imagecache) did not allow the upload of dozens of files and/or folders at a time, so our choice went to another, standalone free and open source CMS called Gallery2. We then configured a "bridge", thanks to the Gallery module (see link below), so that the albums generated by Gallery2 be visible into Drupal.
