5@7 Koumbit with ARTUNG! "ceci n'est pas une pub, c'est de l'art"

Come join the Koumbit team tomorrow, November 4th at Bar Populaire for our monthly 5@7. Our guests are Artung !, who will show us the short films they made of their action "ceci n'est pas une pub, c'est de l'art".

A brief recap of recent events:

"Montreal, May 31, 2011 - A hundred bilboards belonging to Pattison, CBS Outdoor and Astral Media now show works of art. More than two hundred Canadian and International artists have responded to the call of the Artung ! collective. These works were installed this morning throughout the city by around fifty activists."

"We transformed these publicity spaces into works of art to send a message to the advertising giants: they must retract their court order and put an end to their visual pollution all over Montreal."

Activism through painting; giving the street back to art; that's inspiring stuff. You're welcome to come talk about it.

After the presentation you will be invited to grab your brushes, needles and paper for an evening of creation because that's also what Artung is: a space where we get together in order to think through shape and colour, translate our ideas into images and create things. If you're looking for thigs to paint we suggest you create posters for the Anarchist Book Fair, or brainstorm artistik actions that may take place on the People's Plaza during (un)occupy Montreal. Don't worry about your artisic skills or lack thereof, these are the guiding principles of Artung evenings:

  • A desire for inclusion and social mixing
  • Making art with totally.non.artists
  • Taking the plunge into politics with people who aren't used to campaigns and activist environments
  • Crafting stuff in English and French (aka promoting a bilingual environment)
  • Talking, sharing and acting on different social justice issues
  • Sharing know-how and experience to help those hidden talents and abilities grow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can express anything.
  • You don't need to be an artist.
